Growing up in a small traditional jewelry shop owned by her family in China, Baiyang’s interest in jewelry making started at an early age. To pursue her dream, she moved to the United States to study and here she developed a dedicated bench practice that explored contemporary concepts supported by traditional jewelry techniques. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009.
Baiyang began her full-time jewelry business in a home garage in San Jose, California in 2013. In just a few short years her business expanded and she relocated the studio into a dedicated workshop that supports a production studio, staff and design space.
“Inspired by nature and its beautiful forms, I use extremely fine gauge wire of high karat gold and Platinum to bring my designs to life. Whether it be a tiny raindrop gliding down a leaf or a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, vine-like wire work becomes a three-dimension line drawing that captures transitory moments to preserve them in timeless jewelry pieces. The subjective relationship between my work and the body is part of this dichotomy, and jewelry is the medium to present my perspective to the wearer.”
Each handmade work is distinctive and her jewelry has been critically recognized through several national awards including a 2015 NICHE Award, two consecutive first place honors in the MJSA Vision Awards (2015,2016). In 2019 she placed Top Three in the COUTURE Design Awards in platinum and in 2022 she was awarded the Grand Prize in the AJDC Jose Hess Design Awards.
