100 ICE Mark Schneider ICE is one of my favorite AJDC projects, and I approached it much differently from anything I’ve created before. It was made purely for the enjoyment of designing and to celebrate creativity. I wanted to step outside of my typical realm of design – to create something fun and whimsical that would make people smile. I have always been an admirer of Andy Warhol and his ability to poke fun at the establishment while remaining original and relevant, so this was my Warhol-inspired project. I took a bite out of more ice cream bars than I anticipated in order to get my teeth marks’ impressions, which were then replicated by a lapidary on the rock crystal. The silver patina created the perfect “chocolate” coating for the ice cream bar, and it was completed with an 18k yellow gold “stick” with a brushed finish and the Haagen Dazs logo engraved. The finished art piece turned into something I feel proud to share with others, and it always brings a smile to people’s faces, just as I intended.
