TRANSFORMATION William Schraft When TRANSFORMATION was announced as the title for our 2016 project an idea come to me quickly. I have always been amazed at the incredible transformation that occurs when a piece of rough stone is taken from the earth, cut and polished and turned into a brilliant gemstone. I wanted to design a beautiful piece that would feature this transformation by showing both the before and after of the stone. I decided to invent and design a modern transformation machine. My design shows the piece of rough tsavorite being fed into the entry end of the machine and coming out at the other end transformed into a beautiful faceted tsavorite gemstone. At the same time I wanted the machine to be a sleek, modern, platinum design with the control panel contained in the 18k gold trim. While I feel I designed a beautiful machine the hardest part was developing the internal workings of the machine so it could cut the rough properly and polish the facets transforming it into that lovely gemstone.
