WAVE Jennifer Rabe-Morin Growing up along the Mediterranean Ocean, the subtle blues, greens, and the power of the waves struck me with great significance. I have been riveted ever since by the sensual movement and the rich colors of vast bodies of water, and gemstones that share similar colors and effects. Gregore, my husband, and I take an annual trip along the coast on Highway 1 from our home in Santa Barbara to the Big Sur Jade Festival in Northern California. It was at one of the festivals that I found the Wyoming olive jade now in this ring. The fire agate came from Arizona, where the mine owner took great care to carve away the unwanted agate and expose the fire underneath, which is why this stone typically has a changing surface. By combining the carved nephrite jade with the fire agate, I am marrying two of nature’s wonders in a sweep of curves and flashes of color. Jewelry has become a vehicle to share my appreciation for the beautiful in nature and the wonder of being human. 86
