TRANSFORMATION Susan Sadler Made for the 2016 TRANSFORMATION project, The New Egg is an objet d’art depicting a platinum goose who has laid a platinum egg. The Aesop fable ‘The Goose and the Golden Egg” warns that those who have plenty want more and so lose all that they have. In the fable rather than waiting for the goose to give him the once daily golden egg, the farmer kills the goose thinking that it will be filled with golden eggs. And of course, we know how that turned out. My inspiration for The New Egg came in a round about way. The Platinum Guild International sponsored the 2016 Design Project, generously reimbursing AJDC designers for an ounce of platinum. I thought, well, the Platinum Guild just laid a platinum egg! So I replaced the golden goose and the golden egg with a platinum goose and egg, nestled in an 18k gold nest. And curiously, I found an important detail about a goose and her eggs. The goose’s head and eggs are always the same size. I carefully made sure that my goose head and the egg are also the same size. 58
